Packaging Artwork Guidelines

Master prepress standards for custom box printing. Prepare print-ready dielines, CMYK color spaces, vector paths, 300 DPI graphics, and surface finish masks for seamless mass production.

Comprehensive Artwork Guidelines for OEM/ODM Box Printing

To ensure high-precision offset, flexographic, and digital printing across automated production lines, artwork files must follow strict international packaging standards. Our engineering team conducts complimentary prepress digital audits on every incoming file to verify dieline structural accuracy, color channel separation, and resolution before outputting CTP plates.

1

Accepted Vector File Formats

We strongly recommend native vector formats to guarantee resolution-independent scalability during high-speed printing:

  • Adobe Illustrator (.AI): Preferred format. Keep artwork layers separated from dielines.
  • Press-Quality PDF (.PDF): Export as PDF/X-4 with embedded fonts and intact vector layers.
  • Encapsulated PostScript (.EPS): Vector graphics compatible with all RIP software.
  • High-Res Photoshop (.PSD): Accepted for photo-rendered graphics (minimum 300 DPI at 1:1 scale).
2

Color Space & Pantone Matching

Industrial presses operate exclusively on 4-color process inks and spot color channels:

  • CMYK Conversion: Set document color mode to CMYK (GRACoL2013 or ISO Coated v2). RGB files will undergo color shifts during conversion.
  • Pantone (PMS) Spot Colors: For brand-critical logo matching, specify Pantone Matching System (PMS Solid Coated) color numbers.
  • Rich Black Setup: Use C: 60% / M: 40% / Y: 40% / K: 100% for solid black backgrounds to prevent dull gray tones.
3

Bleed, Cut Lines & Safe Zones

Prepress margins protect your artwork against high-speed mechanical cutting variations:

  • Bleed Area (3mm / 0.125 in): Extend background patterns and colors at least 3mm beyond the outer die-cut line.
  • Safe Zone (3mm / 0.125 in): Keep all text, logos, and critical design elements inside the inner safe margin.
  • Precision Tolerance: Our automated steel-rule die equipment maintains strict cutting tolerances within ±0.5mm.
4

Vector Dieline Layering & Line Types

CAD dielines govern automated structural folding and die-knife impression:

  • Separate Layering: Isolate dielines on a top layer named "Dieline" configured with Overprint Stroke.
  • Cut Lines: Represent outer structural boundaries with 100% Magenta solid lines (0.5 pt stroke).
  • Crease / Score Lines: Represent fold lines with 100% Cyan dashed lines (0.5 pt stroke).
  • Perforation / Windows: Indicate tear strips or cutout openings using distinct dotted vector lines.
5

Typography Outlining & Image Resolution

Eliminate missing font errors and blurry raster graphics prior to file transfer:

  • Create Outlines: Convert all text blocks into vector outlines (Type > Create Outlines in Illustrator).
  • Minimum Type Sizes: Maintain positive text above 6pt and reverse-out (white text on dark background) above 8pt.
  • 300+ DPI Imagery: Embed raster images with a minimum resolution of 300 DPI at 100% actual print size.
6

Special Finishes & Surface Enhancements

Isolate premium finishing masks clearly to guide plate maker setup:

  • Foil Stamping (Hot Foil): Place foil elements on a vector layer labeled "Foil Stamping" in 100% K solid black.
  • Embossing / Debossing: Isolate 3D tactile paths on an "Embossing" layer defining male/female die boundaries.
  • Spot UV & Varnish: Create gloss highlights on a dedicated "Spot UV" vector layer set to Overprint.

Global Quality Assurance & Technical Support

At Packify Custom Boxes, every artwork submission undergoes systematic inspection by certified packaging engineers. We verify line weights, ink limit density, barcode scannability (ISO/IEC 15416 standard), and flap clearance for high-speed cartoning machines. We provide 2D digital proofs and 3D folding simulations for your formal authorization before starting physical print production.
